Social Change Nation's Podcast | Make a dollar AND a difference

Are you set-up for an “A+ Life”? Well let’s face it, you don’t have to be the perfect student to succeed and accomplish your dreams. However, in order to reach your goals you must first have some established. This week we are covering the important topics of higher education through debt management and career fulfillment with none other than Jonathan Brush of College Plus! Jonathan found importance in purposeful and customized education at a young age. He has more recently discovered the great need for debt management and affordable education for students during his 11 year term as Director of Admissions at a traditional college. College Plus gives people an opportunity to earn a fully accredited bachelor's degree in a way that is purposeful: to help them figure out why they are in a specific degree or if they even need one for their goals, a way that is flexible: to weave in real life learning experiences, and finally a way that is affordable: allowing students to graduate with no debt, preparing them for accomplishing their goals. Tune into the Podcast below for some amazing insight on a topic and problem almost every student faces!

This week we’ve dedicated one podcast to discovering the story and background of a social enterprise company that changes lives through socks. These aren’t just any socks, the sustainable and unique design stands out from the rest. Mitscoots Socks was created by Tim Scott after he realized the high need for socks by those who were homeless. Volunteering for many organizations, Tim found individuals asking for these items, “food, water, oh and do you have any socks?” Through experiences like this, Tim found the need of a one-for-one business model built around this request, and Mitscoots Socks was born! To listen in on details of his story and catch some great insight on how Mitscoots now has employment opportunities for the very people they aid, listen in below!

Project 7, 2 Degrees Food, and Bogo Brush

2. What is your favorite online or offline resource/tool that all entrepreneurs should use?

Having a founder of the organization be a voice that is actively involved in the Social Media for your business.

3. One piece of advice you would give to an aspiring change agent?

Don’t wait. Don’t let the “I don’t knows” keep you from starting something that could change the world. Let your company grow and look back to see the truth in your growth.

4. What is a caused based book we should all read?

My inspiration comes mostly from Harvard business case study analyses regarding large existing companies. Filling in the gaps to see where the business could have gone has been a good learning experience.

5. What is the first thing we can all do to start changing the word?

Don’t wait until you have a company, just start doing it. There are huge impacts a single individual can have that greatly effect others.

“Do Good. Relax.” Wait, did you just say I can do good for others by relaxing? The answer is, YES! This week we chat with an inspiring entrepreneur who traveled solo for 600 miles in a cab to bring life to what is now ‘Yellow Leaf Hammocks’!  Joe Demin came from a background in finance and real estate development, but realized that he wanted to do more good for communities and people around the world. In a trip to Thailand, Joe stumbled across one of the most comfortable, well-designed, and beautiful hammocks that ultimately changed his view on business. This gave him inspiration to change lives of villagers trapped in exploitation and debt slavery. To hear how Joe started Yellow Leaf Hammocks, ways villagers benefit from each hammock, and how YOU can get one, listen in to the podcast below!

This week we speak with our first Social Good Entrepreneur from Switzerland! Tito Alvarez of ‘beyond Beanie’ has an inspiring story of how he makes a ‘Dollar AND a Difference’ for people around the world. Tito first started ‘beyond Beanie’ after visiting Bolivia and seeing the need for economic support and growth for artisan women selling their products on street corners. The purchases you make through ‘beyond Beanie’ help Tito to support artisans in Bolivia as well as children in orphanages in need of meals and school supplies!
